Sea of Thieves has released online and has passed its first 48 hours of life milestone but not without its challenges. Thanks to this latest project from developer Rare being one of the most anticipated games of 2018 – and Microsoft helping boost player counts by making it available as part of their Game Pass subscription plan – there’s an overwhelming amount of interest. So much so, that Sea of Thieves as not been working as intended to say the l
Sea of Thieves launched in March earlier this year and has exceeded Microsoft’s expectations. Rare has since run its first major post-launch event, The Hungering Deep, and just yesterday Rare started the first of what it calls “Bilge Rat Adventures,” which are smaller scale events that will fill in the weeks between major content releases. Rare’s firing on all cylinders, and the studio seems like it’s in its best condition in a decade — it’s the perfect time to throw a celebrat
Fans of Rare are excitedly awaiting the anniversary of what might be the studio’s most iconic franchise, Banjo-Kazooie . Originally launching on Nintendo 64 in 1998, June 29 will mark the 20th anniversary of the hugely popular 3D platforming Strategy game collectibles|https://strategyreviewer.com/. Fans will be absolutely celebrating, but the question is whether Rare will be too, and what the studio has planned. Players of Rare’s newest game, Sea of Thieves , think they might have an idea what’s in st
Beddall, whose work on Sea of Thieves can be seen on his portfolio page , went on to explain a little more of Rare’s thinking during development, suggesting that ” the plans and ideas for the game were bigger than what was released ,” but that the core gameplay loop of the title never really shifted. Whereas Beddall himself was hoping for more by way of ” dungeons and raids ,” instead he shares the genuine concerns of players over the lack of variety found in the full release of the game. His experience of working on Sea of Thieves was one where Rare was ” really anal about every detail of the game ” when more focus could have been put into the gameplay itself. ” I have never worked on a game that was developed so slowly, ” he s
Rare has been hard at work making up for the initial lack of content, but the game was still coming up short when it came to competitive action. The new PVP mode could change all that. To be clear, The Arena won’t be another Battle Royale but Rare never wanted it to be. They set out to create a game different from those around them. Hopefully for players 2019 will unveil a new series of fun content to keep them returning to Sea of Thiev
With little time left in 2018, Rare is already preparing for next year, beginning with a new PVP mode called The Arena . There is no release date as of yet, but players should expect it to launch early in 2019. According to Polygon , The Arena is not a Battle Royale mode, although the game mode will allow players to compete with one another quickly. The Arena will pit gamers against one another in a search for treasure. The new PVP mode will include a new tavern and a new trading company, The Sea Dogs, who will face off against the players as w
To be fair, there’s no overt evidence that Rare is planning a Banjo-Kazooie event for Sea of Thieves , only circumstantial evidence. Rare could end up doing nothing of the sort, Rare could just release a figurehead to pick up in-game without an event for it, or Rare could do something even crazier. Time will tell, but knowing Rare’s love of its history (and fans’ love too) don’t be surprised to find a certain bear and bird celebrating their 20th anniversary in st
The main criticism of Sea of Thieves is the sheer lack of depth in content and progression, and this holds true to an extreme when it comes to the game’s NPC population. There’s really only one enemy type on quests or in Skeleton Forts (the raids of Sea of Thieves ) and these are skeletons. Most voyages and the game’s only fort type involves just skeletons but there are different types with their own attributes. When in the water there are sharks and when in a ship there are Krakens, but those are self-explant
Skeletons are the only enemy type in Sea of Thieves but come in several varieties. They all only appear on land and cannot enter water beyond the depth of their legs. Some come with swords, some with ranged weapons, and some even eat bananas to heal themselves, while others can use cannons at fo
And while us players are certainly not getting what we paid for (yet), the devs are feeling the stress as well. This is where the devs step in to explain the situation and plan going forward, and they’ve done so in a very smart
Rare is well known for slipping Easter eggs into their games and Sea of Thieves is extreme in this regard. But now some of those Easter Eggs seem more like event foreshadowing. Several references to Banjo-Kazooie lie hidden among the islands of Sea of Thieves , but one island in particular is now drawing attention. On Plunder island, several references to Banjo-Kazooie are found — a painting of a series of feathers, references to a Phoenix, giant statues of birds, and most important of all, a large painting of a very big bear with a red bird flying overh
