The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding production facilities abroad, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People’s Republic of China. Toto saw North America as a growth market for Washlet bidets and toilets, as opposed to its “base” markets of Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure that the future generations could read the words. Many words were substituted with foreign ones. For example dui, which is Bengali for verandah, was used.

Origins

The company was founded in 1917 and its early years were a mirror of Japan’s economic growth. In the beginning of its existence, the company produced products to meet the demand for new, modern urban housing. It was the first tunnel kiln in the nation to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding internationally in the latter part of the 1980s to take advantage of new markets and sales opportunities. The company founded the Cera Trading Company to import and market other products from other manufacturers to complement its own line of sanitary earthenwares and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expanded the firm’s global market share.

In the 1990s Toto began to focus on research and development of water-related appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve its customers and improve profit. The company used the same approach of just-in-time in its supply chain management and sales program. This led to a higher level of satisfaction with the customer.

Toto continues to invent toilet technology. The latest toilet, for instance, has a strong tornado flush that is more ecologically friendly than traditional toilets. The company also makes use of recycled water in its production process and has a green procurement policy. In addition to toilets, Toto manufactures bathtubs and faucets, as well as hand dryers that are more efficient in energy use than conventional models.

The first museum of the company was opened in 2015 and features exhibits on Toto’s most iconic products and their evolution and its group companies (all that deal with ceramics) and the historical background of plumbing and products such as bath units, and in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum even has a bathroom that includes a WASHLET toilet as well as other toilet-related innovations.

Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group did sessions for a variety of musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro, and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all played on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also appeared on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

This song mixes folk and the distorted AOR which could seem like a complete blunder, but is very effective.

After Toto IV, the band’s fortunes changed for the worse. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band had to go through numerous drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band following drug-related charges. The band remained with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Despite the turbulence, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. The band managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. The album was the last of Toto’s lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.
