The handles on your doors get worn out over time and need to be replaced. When doing this it is crucial that the new handles match the dimensions of the handle that was previously used.
The three measurements you need to examine are the top screw’s location, lever and key hole sizes. Check the size guide for assistance in this.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever/lever handle is a contemporary door handle designed to work with new or replacement door handles doors. This style of handle is available in various designs and finishes. This handle is offered by a number of manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The handles made of uPVC/Composite are made of tough materials and are ideal for multi-point lock doors that need a heavy-duty design. The handles are inline and operate with the same spindle as well as screw fixings. They can be easily incorporated into new or existing upvc window handle replacement/Composite doors.
The spring lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps to ensure the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The lever that is sprung can be reduced to accommodate a wider range of locks. This is useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is further back in the door. A shortened lever can also be used on doors with latches that can be activated with the thumb located on the inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently from lever-type replace window handles that are found on the majority of doors. These handle types are either operated by one spindle, or two spindles, either inline or offset. They are typically used on UPVC doors with double glazing and come in a range of finishes & variations.
The handles are available in a variety of finishes including White, Chrome, and Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for its intended use.
All of the UPVC lever pad designs come with a spindle and screws that allow them to be installed on any new or existing uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres permit a bigger size of handle which can often be a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have springs, which eliminate the problem of door handles that move out of the horizontal position when they are not being used.
It is important to ensure that the dimensions of the PZ for both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when selecting the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also known as the “handle centre” or “cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect of matching up the correct handles.
Once you have decided on the proper PZ size and the correct PZ size, you must ensure that the lever and push pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. They are usually of a round or square shape, with an internal lever and external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads that we offer are sprung, which means that they will return to their horizontal position when not in use, instead of hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This prevents draughts from entering the home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed versions which allows them to be installed on either side of the doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are usually found on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of doors. The cylinder lock is operated by using a key that unlocks the cylinder’s case. This reveals pins that can be aligned to those in the lock, and permit them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.
Choosing the right cylinder is crucial; it is dependent on how your door and handle are utilized. For instance, exterior doors must be secured with a more secure cylinder while doors inside can be secured using a standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can improve security, such as anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
A euro cylinder must be properly measured to ensure it’s the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place however if this is not feasible, you can take it off and remove it to take measurements. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, so it is essential that it’s not too long.
The design of many modern cylinders comes with anti-drilling as well as bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to turn in a different direction. This will help to deflect the attack and protect your doors.
There are cylinders that have been made to resist snapping. This is a common attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and simpler method to gain access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which can make it difficult to prove insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is positioned in the base of your door handle’s backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution that returns the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after use. In the past, a lot of these types of handle did not have a spring built into them and without this they can droop or drop when the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple part is the best way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your upvc door from becoming stuck in the open or closed position, as they are difficult to close manually.
These spring cassettes were created to be used with a sprung multipoint locks. They won’t work with handles that are not sprung and you’ll have to cut a hole in your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please look at the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are sold as a single unit. They come with a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
